ECS & PICL Mountain Bike Team

ECS is excited to announce the partnership with Pennsylvania Interscholastic Cycling League (PICL) to launch ECS’s First Mountain Bike Team, open to ECS students entering grades 6-12 in the fall. 

This team will offer race opportunities and advanced skill development for our seasoned BikeECS riders, while also creating welcoming entry points for our new riders - and everyone in between. Practices will be held in the evenings at Frick Park, alongside Ruach Cycling club’s practices, with optional weekend races. The season begins in the summer, and registration opens this spring.

Scholarships, bikes, and helmets are available - we are committed to lowering barriers and making this opportunity accessible to all students. The team is coached by licensed instructors, and many of them are Pgh local legends in the mountain bike community.

To kick things off, PICL is hosting a free “Try-It” event on Wednesday, April 15, 4:30–6:00 PM (rain date April 29). Students can experience mountain biking through fun games and skill-building activities led by licensed coaches. Sign up here!

If transportation for students is a barrier, Coach V and Ms. Brienza will offer limited spots for students to bike over from ECMS and ECHS with parent/guardian permission and pick-up at the event.

Are you also interested in riding with us? It’s a great opportunity for parents/community members who’d like to get involved. PICL offers free training for parents and community members who want to serve as support coaches — and the time commitment is minimal!
